Skin Tag Removal

Plasma bt is the machine we use to provide this highly innovative treatment used to eliminate skin blemishes and remove abnormal and unwanted tissue.

It uses plasma, a special form of a gas that has an electrical energy, to work throughout the skin from the epidermis deep into the dermis. The Plasma causes a process called sublimation which turns a solid into a gas so results are instant with moles, skin tags and warts being removed in minutes.

What is Plasma used for?

The Plasma is used to remove moles, skin tags and warts which are either inconvenient due to clothing rubbing and catching on them, or considered unsightly by the client. Moles must have been checked by a G.P prior to removal.

Conditions suitable for treatment with Short Wave Diathermy include:

  • Moles – Will require a letter from your G.P that confirms the cosmetic nature of the lesion.
  • Skin tags

What does the treatment involve?

After careful consultation and explanation the area to be treated is cleaned prior to the application of a local anaesthetic on the skin. This is left for 20 minutes. Multiple shots of Plasma spaced closely together are administered with the treatment taking just minutes to perform. Due to the anaesthetic discomfort during the procedure is minimal. The Plasma causes a process called sublimation which turns a solid into a gas so essential ‘vaporises’ the skin being targeted. There is no heat transferred to surrounding tissues and therefore no damage caused to the rest of the skin.

Results are instant with mole, skin tag and wart removal. Following treatment a little dark brown micro-crust can be seen in the treatment site which will flake off after approximately 5 days. You should be prepared for your skin to be left slightly pink from the heat that was applied and for slight puffiness to manifest in some areas. These symptoms are usually short lived. For the first 48 hours following treatment you should take the following steps to treat your skin with care and aid its’ healing:

  • Pay particular attention to hygiene and avoid touching the treated area
  • Keep the treated area dry and free from creams / perfumes
  • Avoid excessive exercise and anything that causes sweating
  • Protect skin with a high SPF sun protection and avoid sun exposure for a minimum of 48 hours
  • Avoid extremes of temperature such as sauna, steam room, sun beds etc.

What exactly is Plasma?

Plasma is the 4th state of matter, after solid, liquid and gas. Essentially it’s a gas, in this case atmospheric, that is ionised (electrons removed through the application of energy). Plasma is common throughout the universe (and in plasma tv’s), but is not the same as plasma found in blood.

Does it hurt?

A local anaesthetic is used to numb the skin to minimise discomfort with many patients not feeling anything at all.

How many treatments will I need?

Often no return clinic visits are necessary however the size and number of skin tags, moles or warts will impact on whether it takes a few sessions to obtain the desired results.

How many skin tags, moles or warts can be removed in one session?

Following numbing treatments are generally limited to 20 minutes to avoid overheating the area of skin being worked on and we do what we can do safely within that time frame.

How quickly will I see results?

Results are often instant. Following the treatment your skin may be a little pink and can be mildly puffy for a day or so but quickly settles to flat, normal skin.

How long does the treatment take?

Approximately 40 minutes, allowing you to return to normal daily activities immediately. If the lesion is on your face, it is important that you are aware that we do not advise any makeup to be applied to the skin until after 48 hours.

Can anyone have this treatment?

This treatment is appropriate for most people and skin types. It isn’t recommended to have this treatment whilst you are pregnant or breast feeding or if you are taking anti-coagulants (blood thinners).
