Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive technique that uses a diamond tip to lift off dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. These are removed by a vacuum in the dermabrasion wand.

The underlying fresh skin is more receptive to the penetration of skincare products giving you a smoother, younger looking skin.

What is microdermabrasion used for?

Microdermabrasion is used to improve tone and texture of the skin, to reduce fine lines, fade pigmentation and improve acne damaged skins. Suitable for all age groups and all skin types. Conditions suitable for treatment with microdermabrasion include:

  • Sun induced pigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Age spots
  • Milia (white heads)
  • Black heads
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne and blemishes
  • Enlarged/clogged pores
  • Flaking/dry skin

What does the microdermabrasion treatment involve?

The skin is cleansed prior to the procedure. The diamond tip is passed repeatedly over the skin, stimulating production of new collagen. Post procedure a serum is applied followed by moisturiser. The procedure is not painful but may feel slightly scratchy leaving the skin pink as if you have taken a hot bath or strenuous exercise. This settles after a couple of hours. The procedure takes about 30 minutes.

You may experience some flakiness 3-5 days after treatment. You will be advised to avoid any heat treatments for 24-48 hours post procedure (sun beds, direct sun, sauna, hot baths, vigorous exercise). Makeup can be worn immediately, sunscreen must be worn for at least 4 days.

You may note an instant improvement in the appearance of the skin. A course of treatments will be recommended according to your needs and expectations and can be effectively combined with skin peels to improve the outcome. Treatments are usually spaced 7-10 days apart, the number of treatments depending on the condition being treated. Maintenance treatments can be carried out every 4-6 weeks. A free initial consultation is advised to best tailor the treatment options to your needs / requirements.

Does it hurt?

No, it doesn’t. Most clients tolerate the treatment very well with most finding it very relaxing. The sensation experienced is slightly scratchy and warming but this disappears very quickly once the treatment is finished.

How often do I need a microdermabrasion treatment?

The typical length of time between treatments is 7-10 days depending on the skin condition being treated.

How quickly will I see results?

Although a difference can be seen after only one treatment, a course is recommended to achieve deeper longer lasting results. The average complete cell turnover is 4-5 weeks, so it will be at the end of this time that the full results can be seen.

Do I need maintenance after my course?

Yes, we do advise you to maintain your results with regular treatments, ideally every 4-6 weeks.

How long does the microdermabrasion treatment take?

Approximately 30 minutes, allowing you to return to normal daily activities immediately. Although it is safe for you to apply your makeup onto the skin immediately after treatment, it is not advisable for 24 hours.
