Dermalux LED Light Therapy

Dermalux LED Light Therapy

The Dermalux uses non-invasive, non-thermal light therapy to treat a range of skin conditions. Whereas we are only too aware in this day and age of the damaging effects of sunlight (UV rays), light also has many positive influences on the body.

The Dermalux LED Light Therapy uses controlled level of specific wavelengths of near-infrared, blue and red light which have been clinically proven to have a beneficial effect in treating skin problems.

How does LED Light Therapy work?

The treatment takes 20 minutes, relaxing in a comfortable recliner with the area to be treated positioned under the light canopy. Depending on which treatment is recommended, the light can appear quite bright, however it is a pleasant, warm, very relaxing experience. Generally a course of treatments is required.

The Dermalux has three different wavelengths that are each clinically proven to deliver results. They can be used individually or combined depending on the treatment required.

Blue light

This has powerful anti-bacterial properties and is effective in treating all grades of acne. As there is no ‘down-time’ with this treatment, (unlike with laser) it is safe to have a session as frequently as daily, enabling the condition to brought under control very quickly.

Red light

This stimulates skin rejuvenation by enhancing cell function and cell proliferation. It increases the synthesis of collagen and stimulates the microcirculation and lymphatic system. Excellent as an anti-aging treatment and also for anti-inflammatory benefits.

Near Infrared light

This light has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect accelerating cell and tissue repair and release of growth factors. Used for the treatment of rosacea and psoriasis and excellent post procedure to accelerate healing.

Dermalux™ LED Light Therapy is recommended for:

• Skin Rejuvenation
• Sun Damage
• Acne and Problem Skin
• Rosacea and Redness
• Sensitive and Inflammatory conditions
• Wound Healing and Scarring
• Restoring Radiance
• Combination treatments

Is Dermalux safe?

Dermalux is a heat free treatment that does not contain harmful UV wavelengths. It is clinically proven to be tolerated by all skin types including those with sensitive skin conditions.

What does Dermalux therapy feel like?

This is a non-invasive, pain free treatment that promotes a feeling of wellbeing and relaxation. Exposure to the light can increase serotonin levels which help to relieve stress and tension. You may feel a mild warmth which is due to the stimulation of the circulation.

Can I go in the sun after a treatment?

Yes, this is a safe treatment pre and post sun exposure and can actually help repair the skin after exposure to UV rays.

Will Dermalux light therapy give me a tan?

No. It does not contain any harmful UV rays that stimulate melanin in the skin which produces a ‘sun’ tan’ effect. You will however get a healthy, natural glow to your skin.

Will the results be seen straight away?

How soon results are seen is dependent on the condition being treated. For skin rejuvenation, some visible effects are immediate with the skin more hydrated, plump, radiant and any redness or irritation calmed. For acne, results are more progressive. Clients report reduction in redness and pore size within the first 7-10 days and reduction in spots within 2-4 weeks. Optimum results are seen 4-8 weeks after treatment. For inflammatory skin conditions the results will depend on the severity of the condition but are generally noticeable as soon as 3 weeks from the start of the course.

How many treatments are required?

The number of treatments depends upon the areas you wish to focus on. In general a typical therapy session will be around 9 sessions over 3 weeks. Treatment plans are optimised on an individual basis.

I am taking medication from the doctor can I still have light therapy?

There are certain circumstances in which phototherapy may prove to be unsuitable. Certain medications may cause photosensitivity and certain conditions may be triggered by light. For your safety and comfort, it is important that any medication, illness, condition or other treatment you may be undergoing are fully disclosed during your consultation.

Can I wear makeup directly after the treatment?

Yes, makeup can be worn straight after the treatment.

Do I have to prepare my skin for a light therapy treatment?

No, your clinician will prepare your skin prior to each treatment by cleansing it.
